2013 Hyundai Accent Palm Springs
Offering extraordinary value and class-above features, the 2013 Hyundai Accent continues to defy convention in a subcompact car. In this production year, the Accent adds even more standard equipment and comfort features at an amazing value, making the Accent’s standard options, safety, and fuel economy among the best in its class.
Those attributes, and many others, helped the 2013 Hyundai Accent capture its second Driver’s Choice Award as MotorWeek’s “Best Subcompact Car”. Since 1983, the annual MotorWeek’s Drivers’ Choice Awards have been touted as one of the auto industry’s top honors, and the Hyundai Accent has now earned the award two years in a row.
New for the 2013 model year, the GLS MT base model now comes standard with AM/FM/SiriusXM Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system with 6 speakers, as well as iPod/USB auxiliary input jacks. This standard sound system will make sure no matter where you’re going or how many of your family and friends pile in, the Accent will keep everyone singing along.
Other standard features pushing the envelope of the 2013 Hyundai Accent are remote keyless entry with panic feature to make access in and out as easy as possible. Air conditioning, heated side mirrors, a power sunroof, and turn signal indicators are standard on the 2013MY and SE trim.
The Accent’s interior is vast for a subcompact. Even the tallest passengers will be comfortable with ample head and legroom in the front seat. All forms of the Accent have big gloveboxes, storage bins, and trays for smartphones, bottles of water, toll and parking meter change, or anything else from flash drives to sun tan lotion.
A long list of safety features is now standard because Hyundai doesn’t believe drivers should have to pay a premium for safety. Six airbags protect occupants in case of a collision, including two front impact airbags, two front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and curtain side-impact airbags for front and rear passengers. Standard front-seat active head restraints help prevent whiplash by reducing the space between a front passenger’s head and the head restraint during certain rear collisions. These active head restraints are highly recommended by safety organizations such as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Adding to the Accent’s safety is an underlying structure engineered to protect occupants using a Collision Load Dispersion (CLD) mechanism. Rear doors also have internal beams for even more layers of protection and safety. This structure distributes the force of an impact in three ways to maintain the integrity of the cabin, making sure you are as safe as possible in a subcompact automobile.
While at the wheel, an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control work together to help deliver superior handling in almost any driving conditions. This system provides additional handling assistance in slippery or sudden cornering situations.
Selected as one of Ward’s 10 Best Engines, the 2013 Accent’s all-aluminum 1.6-liter Gamma four-cylinder engine features the latest innovations in engine technology, delivering an unsurpassed 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque. This engine creates a standard 28-mpg city and 37-mpg highway EPA fuel economy rating. The Accent engine’s most notable features are its better fuel economy, increased power and reduced emissions. The complete range of new engine technologies offers unsurpassed specific output, low emissions with ULEV certification, and reliability backed by a 10 year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
